SEO stands for search engine optimisation. Search Engine Optimization is the process of making your website easier to find, so increasing the number of visitors and making your site higher on the list of search engines. According to Internet Live Searches Google has around 40 000 searches a second. Imagine all the business that could bring your company, if all those people searching landed on your website…

So how do we go about it at NDM:

Google and other search engines have robots (or otherwise known as spiders), that scan your website and, depending on the information they receive, the higher or lower you appear on search engines. These robots like;

  • Keywords – Google likes to be able to work out what your website is about, so for example if somebody searched for a taxi company in Shropshire, and your website included the words, “Shropshire” and “taxi”, then the more likely it is that your site will be first on the list.
  • Changing Content – Google wants to see that you are constantly updating and are active on your site. Therefore, blogs are a clever idea!
  • Clear Site Map – This is so that Google can reach every page of the site, imagine Google is a spider and each page is connected by spider-webs, without the spider-webs Google would not easily be able to find the pages.
  • Clear Pages – If somebody does a more descriptive search, Google can give them specific pages. For example, if somebody searched for “Topshop black jeans”, Google would give them a link to Topshop black jeans page rather than just the Topshop homepage.
  • Short & Simple URLs – The more concise your URLs are the better. It’s best not to include conjunctions in your URLs, as this tell the robots nothing about your website, and makes the URL unnecessarily longer. Therefore stick to the main keywords.

We also, obviously need to impress customers, because without customers, there is no business.

Customers want:

  • Creative/responsive/straightforward design – They want the website to be pleasing to the eye. If they see it’s old fashioned and plain then they are likely to look elsewhere. Making a website mobile friendly is vital, as it is more than likely people will be looking at your site on their phone. So you want it to work just as well on a mobile as it would on a computer/laptop. Also, the website needs to be straight forward so that potential customers can find what they are looking for, without any hassle.
  • Intriguing/Interactive content – However, your website can’t just look pretty! The content must be intriguing and gripping. There’s no point in making your website look the part, if the content is poor.
