Why do people have social media? It’s not to look at adverts, but to have a nose at what everybody is doing with their lives. So how do we make sure that your audience doesn’t just scroll right past your advert? and increase engagement?

Boost To The Right Audience

The first thing to think about is who you want to see your ads, your first reaction may be everyone, but you can get a better return of investment if you boost to a specific target audience.

  • To get your advert in front of the right audience, you must pick the right tools and channels. There are many social networking sites out there, probably more than you think. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Pinterest, Tumblr, YouTube, Reddit and the list goes on. So, think carefully about what networking sites your target audience actively use. There is a pattern especially with ages as to what site people use, for example teenagers tend to use Instagram and Snapchat more than any other social media site.
  • Think carefully about who will be interested in your products, there is no point in advertising car leasing to under 17-year olds. So make sure that you are focusing exactly on your target market as you could waste a lot of time and money and even miss potential customers.
  • There are also laws that you have to stick by, for example you shouldn’t advertise alcohol to under 18’s. So look into all of this carefully before you start.

Give Your Viewers Something In Return, If They Interact With Your Social Post

Completions are always a good way to increase engagement, for example “Like this post too win £200 to spend in store”. This will boost your post even further into the social media world, a like, a share, a comment, meaning friends of friends and friends of friends will come across the post on their timeline. So online completions won’t just increase engagement but also increase brand awareness.

Ads Shouldn’t Look Like Ads

Social media is a great tool to keep updated with trends. Your audience will not want to see an image with prices, terms and conditions etc. We would rather see an image of a person using the product or service. This way the user can relate to the post and see themselves in their position.

Make Sure That You Post Regularly And Necessarily

Posting regularly will keep your followers interested. When and if somebody happens to click on your company profile, they will want to see that you are posting regularly, they wont like or follow your page if there is no content or recent posts.

Make It Funny

If appropriate, try and make your brand more human by making your posts humorous. If your followers see a funny post they are more likely to pay attention to your future campaigns that they come across.

Image/Video

One way to catch people’s eyes is to use images and video, sharing images on Facebook has said to increase engagement by 2.3% compared to posts without images. Some platforms such as Twitter are very limiting with the amount of text you can write in one post, including an image or video can get a larger and more detailed message across to your audience. “45% of people watch more than an hour of Facebook or YouTube videos a week.” – Wordstream
